Country musician Luke Bryan is sending friendly good luck wishes to all the Academy of Country Music Award nominees today. The awards show airs live from Nashville later tonight at 8/7 p.m. CST.
“Good luck to all my friends on the @ACMawards TONIGHT,” Bryan tweeted Sunday. “It’s gonna be a great night for country music! #ACMAwards.”
Luke Bryan Is Up for Two Awards Tonight
The country singer received ACM Award nominations for Entertainer of the Year and Album of the Year this year. In the first category, he is competing against Chris Stapleton, Thomas Rhett, Eric Church and Luke Combs. Rhett won the 2020 award along with Carrie Underwood. Bryan won Entertainer of the Year in 2013 and 2015.
For Album of the Year, Bryan is up against Kane Brown, Ashley McBryde, the Brothers Osborne and Chris Stapleton. In 2020, the Album of the Year award went to Luke Combs.
This past Monday, Bryan released a statement saying he had tested positive for Covid-19. A representative for the musician confirmed to Rolling Stone that Bryan would therefore be unable to participate in the ACM Awards this year.
Still, Gold Derby says it’s possible Bryan could take home an ACM Award tonight, particularly for Album of the Year. Bryan is an underdog, but his album Born Here Live Here Die Here hit No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, and Bryan’s high-profile role on “American Idol” probably won’t hurt his chances, either.
Bryan Is an Avid Angler
Earlier this month, Luke Bryan went on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and described how he keeps the lake on his property outside Nashville stocked with bass, as well as trout for the bass to eat. Then he explained how that led to a gnarly fishing accident.
Bryan and a friend were going bass fishing one day. But instead, Bryan accidentally caught a trout.
So Bryan went to take the hook out of the trout and throw it back in – and an accident ensued. “And just, the trout kicked, slipped, and the hook went right through my hand… I’m like, ‘We got a problem, Russ,'” Bryan told Kimmel, per Taste of Country.
Bryan got two barbed hooks stuck in his hand. One went all the way to the bone, and the other went right through the skin between his thumb and index finger.
But somehow, in the end, the hooks came out without Bryan even needing a bandage. And Bryan and his friend actually went right back to fishing.
Now those are some dedicated anglers.
