Alan Jacksons Says ‘This Heart of Mine’ is ‘Real Hard Country’: Here’s Why

All you Alan Jackson fans already know that he recently dropped his latest album, Where Have You Gone. But do you know what his favorite songs are from the album?

Alan Jackson recently shared a video during which he talked about one of his favorite songs from Where Have You Gone, “This Heart of Mine.” He shared that he loves the song because it aligns perfectly with his “hard country” roots.

“‘This Heart of Mine’, that’s a real country song. And Denise and I both, we love that track on there, it’s one of our favorites,” said Jackson. “It’s real hard country. It’s just simple. But it’s got a great feel. The lyrics are nice. I just love it.”

Along with the video, he wrote, “One of Alan’s favorite tracks from #WhereHaveYouGone is “This Heart Of Mine.” Have you streamed it yet?”

Alan Jackson Says Country Music Is Gone

It’s no secret that, over the last few decades, country music has evolved. Between collaborations with other artists and cross-genre songs, country music is totally different now. And in a lot of ways, it’s cool to see how people can creatively spin the genre. However, it’s also been a little disappointing to see classic country fade away. Alan Jackson certainly isn’t happy about it. During a recent interview, Jackson talked about how he feels about country music now.

“Country music is gone — and it’s not coming back,” said Jackson.”It’s like the 1980s again. I’m 62 years old, I’m not some 30-year-old stud. It’s not the same, but somebody has to bring it back, because it’s not just people in their 50s, it’s people in their 20s, too.”

However, Jackson added that the desire for classic country isn’t gone. In fact, people from all different age groups long for some more twang.

“All the kids and young people around my house? The older they’ve got, the more hardcore and traditional what they’ve leaned into has become,” said Jackson. “It’s not old-school, it’s the real school. And I’m kinda p***** off … about what’s happened to the format, or whatever they wanna call it.”

Luckily, Alan Jackson continues to deliver hard country to all the fans longing for the classic sound.

“Real country songs are life and love and heartache. They’re drinking, singing about Mama and having a good time, sad things, fun things,” said Jackson.

He added that Where Have You Gone reflects his country roots.

“It reflects the sounds of the instruments I grew up on, steel and acoustic guitar, the fiddle and the way they all came together,” he said. “It gave you a sound, but also a real feeling or emotions no other music really had.”
