Ashley McBryde Describes Worst Venue She ‘Accidentally’ Played At

by Halle Ames

We all have traumatizing memories, but country artist Ashley McBryde details the worst venue she ‘accidentally’ played at.

You know the saying you have to kiss some frogs to find a prince, well the same situation applies. You have to play at some questionable venues to appreciate the nice ones.

Well, lucky for Ashley McBryde, she has clawed her way to the top and has had countless performances on notable stages like the Ryman Auditorium and the Grand Ole Opry.

But let’s rewind the clock a bit. Let’s take a trip down that dark and forgotten road to recall the worst venue McBryde has performed in.

“Are You the Entertainment?”

In an interview with Coop’s Rockin’ Country from March, Ashley McBryde reveals a place in her home state of Arkansas that she played at earlier in her singing career.

“I’m not gonna tell you the name of the bar just in case that delightful little shoot-n-stab is still open,” McBryde said. “It had this name that suggested to me they probably serve hot dogs. It’s like a cool sports bar; I had booked it sight unseen.”

But the hot dog-looking joint wasn’t the worst part. Although the people seemed nice, the establishment was less than desirable. Thankfully, Ashley McBryde was accompanied by two friends.

“I knocked, and a very nice gentleman named Dwayne opened the door and asked me, ‘Are you the entertainment?’ So, I go in. These are very, very nice people, but I quickly realize what I’ve walked into,” she said.

So, McBryde entered the peculiar looking establishment and started to look around. It turns out she wasn’t the only entertainment that night.

“I start loading my stuff to the stage, and the stage is covered in like, boot carpet and right past the DJ booth there is a barber’s chair leaned back, and I thought, ‘That’s strange.’ Not nearly as strange as the mirrors on the back wall of the stage or the pole in the center,” she explained. “I have accidentally booked myself at an illegal exotic dance area! I was terrified for my life the entire time, but it turns out they were really wonderful people and the burgers were fairly good.”

Furthermore, Ashley McBryde jokes about the shape of the shot glasses. We can only imagine what she is referring to, but body parts are coming to mind. Shivers.

“The shot glasses weren’t of a shape that I would care to use again.”

Ashley McBryde Hits the Road

In addition, Ashley McBryde kicks off her This Town Talks Tour today in Roanoke, Virginia. It is the first of a 37-city route that will end in January of 2022 in Cleveland, Ohio.

She will also headline a performance at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium in late August. Lainey Wilson and Carlee Hammack will join McBryde for the girl power performance.
