Today is a great day for country music fans. Several solid artists have dropped new albums on shelves and streaming services today. That list includes Ashley McBryde. Today marks the release of her long-awaited live EP Never Will: Live from a Distance.

The only downside to all this great music is that you’re going to have a hard time choosing what to listen to over your long weekend. On the other hand, you’ve got plenty of time to cycle through it all. However, while you’re building your playlist, don’t forget to drop some of Ashely McBryde’s live cuts in the mix along with that new Blackberry Smoke album.

The McBryde Trybe has been waiting on this release for months. Ashley first announced the release back in March when she dropped the live video for “Martha Divine.” Since then, she has released a handful of other singles just to whet our appetites. Now, we get the whole package. Let’s see what’s inside.

Ashley McBryde Hits Different Live

If you’re not familiar with Ashley McBryde, I can sum her up pretty easily. She’s part of the new generation of outlaw country artists. She does her own thing. However, she never drifts far from her country roots. She has won CMAs, ACMs, as well as a CMT Award. If the trophies don’t do it for you, that’s cool. She is also featured on Ray Wylie Hubbard‘s latest album Co-Starring. She’s on the song “Outlaw Blood.”

Her album cuts are great. However, Ashley McBryde’s live tracks hit a little differently. There’s a fire to them that you won’t find on a studio recording. So, even though all of these songs are taken from her 2020 album Never Will, the live recording makes them feel fresh.

When she dropped the “Martha Divine,” video earlier this year, McBryde said that she wanted her fans to get a taste of what her live shows would have been like. She really didn’t get to tour for her 2020 release. So, she wanted to give her fans something special. This EP is definitely something special.

Songs like “Shut Up Sheila,” and “Martha Divine,” have a little more fire to them than their album counterparts. At the same time, the live cuts of “Sparrow,” and “First Thing I Reach for,” both have a little more soul to them. It’s as if the live format allows Ashely McBryde to inject a little more sorrow into them.

The only thing missing from this live EP is the cheering crowd and the interaction. It was 2020, there was no crowd. So, really, she would have just been talking to herself. It wouldn’t have felt authentic.
