Dolly Parton can count former president Barack Obama amongst her millions of fans. In a recent interview, Obama calls not giving her a Presidential Medal of Freedom “a mistake”.

While chatting with Stephen Colbert on this past Monday’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, former President Barack Obama confessed to one of his biggest regrets.

As is often the case with host Colbert (56), the subject of Dolly Parton came up. He is, after all, another enormous fan of hers, her music, and her incredible humanitarian work. It turns out that Obama is a huge fan, as well. Though, really, who isn’t?

During his interview with the former president, Colbert asks how the country icon does not have a Presidential Medal of Freedom “after all her humanitarian work”. It is beyond a fair question, as Dolly Parton is the gift that keeps on giving. In addition to her past decades of incredible efforts, she just donated $1 million to scientists developing a COVID-19 vaccine this year.

Obama “Shocked” Dolly Parton Doesn’t Have Presidential Medal of Freedom Yet

Obama’s answer when Colbert asks?

“That’s a mistake — I’m shocked,” the former president replies. “That was a screw up. I’m surprised,” he adds.

Like most of us, it seems Obama naturally assumed someone as brilliantly giving as Dolly Parton would’ve earned one by now. “I think I assumed that she had already got one, and that was incorrect,” Obama continues. Shocking, indeed!

Perhaps his former vice president, now President-Elect Joe Biden, can pick up the baton and award Parton for her decades of humanitarian service.

“She deserves one,” the former president adds. “I’ll call Biden!” he jokes of his vice president. Joe Biden is set to become the 46th President of the United States come January 2021.

As for Dolly, she has no plans of slowing down her giving ways any time soon. She may, however, step out of the limelight for a bit to take a break from the entertainment industry. She does, after all, seem to be absolutely everywhere – and at the top of her game – in 2020.

““I’m sick of Dolly, ain’t you?” Parton recently joked to The New York Times. “With all the stuff coming out, it’s like, if I hear one more product, one more story, one more thing about Dolly Parton … I think, ‘Well, maybe I better hang it up for a while next year.’”
