A Holly Dolly Christmas marks Dolly Parton‘s forty-seventh solo studio album.  This is also her third Christmas album after 1984’s Once Upon a Christmas with Kenny Rogers and 1990’s Home for Christmas. The album reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums chart and No. 16 on the overall Billboard 200.

Her record features six collaborations including two family members. “Christmas Is” features her goddaughter Miley Cyrus while “You Are My Christmas” features Randy Parton. Other features include Willie Nelson, Michael Buble, Jimmy Fallon, and Billy Ray Cyrus.

Brett Eldredge – ‘Glow’

Brett Eldredge truly defies genres with his Christmas album, Glow. You’d swear you’re listening to the grandson of Frank Sinatra at points. One of the standout tracks is a cover of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” featuring pop superstar Meghan Trainor.

The title track, “Glow,” is an original he co-wrote with frequent collaborator, Ross Copperman.  “I originally had the idea… as the vision of someone you love, making your whole world light up,” Eldredge told Song Facts. “It captures the simplicity of sitting next to the dimly lit Christmas tree and watching her glow.”

Kelly Clarkson – ‘Wrapped In Red’

Best: For Christmas originals

Kelly Clarkson‘s Wrapped In Red features five original songs she co-wrote with Greg Kurstin and eleven covers of holiday classics. Clarkson together with Reba McEntire and Trisha Yearwood created a stunning rendition of “Silent Night.” She also collaborated with Ronnie Dunn on “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” The album was undeniably different than Clarkson’s previous pop and country releases, she tapped into several different genres including jazz and soul.

In 2013, it became the best-selling Christmas record of the year in both the United States and Canada. It debuted No. 1 on the Billboard Top Holiday Albums Chart and No.3 on the Billboard 200. Finally, to go along with her album, Clarkson released a special,  Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale, that was filmed at  The Venetian Las Vegas, Nevada.

Carrie Underwood – ‘My Gift’

Carrie Underwood’s seventh studio album is a Christmas hit. The record features eight covers and three original songs. Underwood co-wrote “Sweet Baby Jesus” and “Let There Be Peace.”

Underwood released a Christmas special on HBO Max where she performed her Christmas hits. Furthermore, she teamed up with pop superstar John Legend for an original song he wrote, “Hallelujah.” Additionally, her son Isaiah is featured on a cover of “Little Drummer Boy.” Altogether, it was a family affair.

Alan Jackson – ‘ Let It Be Christmas’

Best: For traditional country music

Alan Jackson brought the country out on Let It Be Christmas for his eleventh studio album in 2002. Moreover, this marked his second holiday record following 1993’s Honky Tonk Christmas. Surprisingly, the title track debuted in the Top 40 all-genre chart. It is certified RIAA Gold. Obviously this record brings all of the classic country sounds from the music legend.

In 2017, Jackson re-released the entire album. Unlike his previous Christmas album, this record was primarily covers of classic tunes.

Lady A – ‘On This Winter’s Night’

Best: For harmonies

Lady A debuted On This Winter’s Night marked their fourth studio album. It was released in 2012 and additionally included six tracks from their 2010 EP, A Merry Little Christmas. It quickly became certified RIAA Gold. Besides the EP and regular edition, there’s a new release from Lady A just in time for Christmas.

Furthermore, this year, the trio re-released the record in a deluxe version with sixteen tracks in total. The new version under their new band name included four new recordings. The three co-wrote the original song “Christmas Through Your Eyes.” “Wonderful Christmastime,” “Little Saint Nick,” and “That Spirit of Christmas” are also included in the deluxe edition.
