Country music legend, Blake Shelton, went on the Bobby Jones show today (Jan. 15) to talk about his new song. However, the conversation drifts in a different direction.
Although most of the interview is about his song, “Minimum Wage,” Shelton and Jones begin talking about hair. In particular, Jones asks a question about mullets. Moreover, Blake Shelton says that he wishes he still was rocking a mullet now.
Back in the 1990s, Blake Shelton had one of the most glorious mullets in music, not just country music. His long black curly hair would flow down to his shoulders, often with a cowboy hat sitting on top.
Of course, the party in the back was paired beautifully with his business in the front hairdo. His music in the 90s absolutely skyrocketed. Now, that isn’t to say that it was because of the mullet, but certainly, the mullet can’t be ruled out of being the reason for the success.
But after all this time, Blake Shelton says that there is one guy in particular that he’s the most jealous of. That man is country superstar Morgan Wallen.
“How do you feel about the return of the mullet? Because, what do people say about yours back in the day? Versus, you know, kind of the new generation of the mullet.”
Blake Shelton doesn’t even flinch, taking the question in stride. He doesn’t even pause for a second to think about the question. Instead, he immediately begins talking about how jealous he is of country musicians rocking mullets.
Blake Shelton Discussing Why He Doesn’t Still Have a Mullet
“Yeah, well, here’s how I feel about it because I’m a little jealous. Uh, and that’s being honest. I am a little jealous that I don’t have the mullet. But, here’s what I’ve found is you know, you look at like, Morgan Wallen. He’s a good looking guy. And, he’s in shape.”
So, not only is he jealous of Morgan Wallen’s mullet, but he is also jealous of his physique. But, Blake Shelton isn’t finished with just expressing how he wants a mullet like Wallen. He also talks about a realization he had during the quarantine.
“And when I tried growing my mullet out this last year during the quarantine time, I realized that for me you can’t be fat and have a mullet. Like, it has to be,… you know what I mean? In order to get away with it, you have to have something else going for you. And you know, back in the day when I had one, man I was skinny and that’s not how it is anymore. So if I’m going to have to have the mullet, I have got to lose 150 pounds.”
Regardless of whether or not Shelton thinks he is fit enough to rock a mullet, he should certainly bring it back. So, Blake Shelton, please do whatever it takes to don that glorious hairdo once more, everyone misses it. Well, maybe not everyone, but certainly, most of your fans do.
In the meantime, go listen to his new single.
