Blake Shelton has a great Twitter feed. It seems like so few superstars run their own social media. Shelton, on the other hand, uses his to stay in touch with his fans. At the same time, he gives them glimpses into his life. Sure, there is a fair amount of promotion going on. After all, he has a television show, an ultra-famous fiancé, and a ton of music to push. However, it’s the personal posts that really set Shelton apart from other huge country stars.

Recently, he excitedly shared his new tractor with his followers. Blake Shelton has also been out on the water pulling in some massive paddlefish. Last night, however, he turned things around. Instead of sharing moments from his life, Shelton posed a big question to his Twitter followers to celebrate National Pet Day.

Blake Shelton’s post said that he needed to know if anyone had named their dog after his hit single “Ol’ Red.”

The song tells an incredible story centered around a prized bloodhound. So, it would be fair to assume that someone out there would name their hound Ol’ Red. Some would go so far as to say that if you have a bloodhound and didn’t name it for Blake Shelton’s hit single, you’d be missing a great opportunity.

Blake Shelton Made ‘Ol Red’ a Hit

Blake Shelton included “Ol’ Red” on his debut album in 2001. He released the song as a single the next year. It found its way to the top-twenty and peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Country Songs chart. Despite missing the top of the chart, the song would become a signature hit for Shelton. Almost twenty years later, the country star has built an entire brand around the single.

However, Blake Shelton wasn’t the first to cut the song. In fact, two of the biggest names in country music recorded it years before Shelton. George Jones included the song in his 1990 album You Oughtta Be Here with Me. A few years later, Kenny Rogers cut “Ol’ Red” on his 1993 album If Only My Heart Had a Voice. Rogers was the first to release the song as a single. However, it didn’t do well for him.

Blake Shelton was just the right guy to cut the song. Also, he did it at the right time. It has been almost twenty years and “Ol Red” is still a fan favorite. Take a moment and check out the great video Shelton put together for the hit single below. It’s a great way to start your day.
