Blake Shelton made sure to get some jokes in at this friends’ expense Thursday night when he was on Late Night with Seth Meyers. The Voice host slammed both Brad Paisley and Adam Levine during the less-than-10 minute interview.
Meyers asked the country music star about a number of pressing issues, including his recent engagement to Gwen Stefani, the upcoming season finale of The Voice, and the Hallmark Christmas movie he’s producing with his mom. But as the interview wrapped up, Shelton detoured and asked Meyers about his friendship with country singer Paisley.
“Have you had a chance to talk to Brad Paisley in a while?” he asked. “I know you guys are buddies.”
Meyers took the bait.
“Yeah, we stay in touch via text. I know, probably a lot like you, he’s itching to get back out there on the road,” he said. “He’s a guy who likes being in front of his audience, worked really hard to get that audience, and it’s a shame he’s not performing in front of them.”
“Yeah, well, tell him I said kiss my ass next time you talk to him,” Shelton said.
Blake Shelton Wants Adam Levine to Sing at His Wedding
Blake Shelton also made sure to slam his former The Voice co-star Adam Levine while on the show. Meyers wanted to know about Shelton’s upcoming wedding to Gwen Stefani. And seeing as how they’re both massive music stars, what band they’d ask to perform at the ceremony.
Shelton chose Levine, but not because he likes Levine’s music.
“I’ve been doing this a long time now, and I’ve got a lot of favors out there,” Shelton said. “He may not like it, but Adam Levine is going to have to get the band together and come and play our wedding. … He owes me a lot for just putting up with him over the years.”
Meyers joked that Shelton and Stefani should turn their chairs around while Levine plays as if he is a contestant on The Voice. Shelton said he’s game, but Levine shouldn’t expect either of them to swivel in their seats.
“I like that idea,” he said. “And plus their music is so boring that it won’t distract from the festivities and the reception and all that stuff.”
