If there’s one thing Carson Daly knows it’s a talent for music. This is likely why the television personality encouraged his friends Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani to write their own vows for their lavish July wedding.

When country music superstar Blake Shelton wed pop icon Gwen Stefani on July 3 in Shelton’s home state of Oklahoma, the couple made sure to add many personal touches to the intimate ceremony. Once such touch came at the suggestion of the ceremony’s officiant, and good friend to the couple, Carson Daly.

According to the Oklahoman, Daly approached the couple months before the ceremony suggesting to the couple that they write their own vows.

“It’s two of the best songwriters in the world, we want to hear your words,” the outlet reported the star said. Daly told the couple that their ceremony should include heartfelt vows. “We shouldn’t just do the repeat after me.”

Carson Daly’s Vow Suggestion Was Perfect For Shelton and Stefani

Carson Daly officiated the couple’s wedding, and they really showed up with their personalized vows, the TODAY show personality said.

“At the wedding, Gwen starts, and she wrote this, ‘Since I was a little girl …’ And she crushes, not a dry eye in the church. … It was so perfect,” the officiant Daly said. “I said to Blake when she was done, ‘Top that, buddy.’ And Blake starts by saying, ‘Gwen’s always giving me a hard time about not writing enough songs, so I wrote a song.”

Daly went on to describe the moment as Shelton moved to a stool, pulled out his guitar, and sang a song written by the groom for his new bride.

“Not a dry eye in the house,” Carson Daly said.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani met while working on the hit television series “The Voice.” According to Daly, the one-of-a-kind wedding was the “perfect blend of country and glamour.”

“It was as elegant and refined and cool as Gwen is,” said Daly. “And it was country and down-home and fun as Blake is.”

The TODAY show host went on to say that despite being the unlikely pair – Blake as country as they come, and Stefani being the epitome of “pop icon glamour,” the couple just works.

“They’re like if you paired delicious fried chicken with a glass of champagne,” Daly explained. “On paper, on the menu, it doesn’t seem to work, but it works. They’re comfort food with class, and everybody roots for that.”

The couple was married in an Oklahoma chapel that Blake Shelton had built for the occasion. Stefani wore two breathtaking gowns. One longer more traditional one for the ceremony and a flirtier short gown for the reception. Both couture pieces were designed by Vera Wang. Each dress included special additions to honor her new husband and her sons Kingston, Zuma and Apollo who she shares with her first husband, rocker Gavin Rossdale. The train on her ceremony gown was embroidered with the boy’s names along with Shelton’s. The party dress included love birds that represent the newlyweds as well as three more to symbolize the boys.
