Great news country music fans! Blake Shelton has released a brand new single! Titled “Minimum Wage,” the track is a love song country fans will enjoy, according to the singer. The official release of the song was announced on Shelton’s Twitter page early Friday.

“#MinimumWage is here!!!! It’s a classic-country love song that says you don’t need a lot of money or possessions to have love. I wanted to record it the minute I heard it and it’s catchy as all get-out too! Can’t wait for y’all to hear it,” Shelton posted.

The announcement includes a short clip from the song, as well as a link where fans can hear the full track.

“You can make a six-pack on the carpet / Taste like a million-dollar bill / You can make a one-bedroom apartment / Feel like a house up on the hill,” Blake Shelton sings in the clip. “You can make my truck out in the driveway / Roll like a cleaned up Cadillac / Girl, lookin’ at you lookin’ at me that way / Can make a man feel rich on minimum wage.”

Blake Shelton Describes First Minimum Wage Job

During an appearance on The Bobby Bones Show, Blake Shelton said he was familiar with working a job for close to minimum wage.

“I roofed houses in Ada, Oklahoma,” Shelton said when asked about his first minimum wage job. “And, it may have been more than minimum wage now that I think about it. I think I got paid $8 an hour and I feel like way back then minimum wage might have been like $6 an hour or something closer to that so. Man, I stepped right into the big money roofing houses.”

Bones shared that he also roofed houses in Arkansas in his younger years. When he started, he was tasked with removing old shingles and was not given the responsibility of putting on a new roof. Shelton shared that he had a similar experience.

“I never worked up to shingle guy in two years,” Shelton said. “I was a tear-off guy and I could carry, by the end of the run, I could carry two bundles of shingles up at a time on my shoulder, which is like 120 pounds. That was the only time in my life I was ever in shape. …”

Singer Responds to ‘Minimum Wage’ Criticism

Some fans were not happy when they heard “Minimum Wage” for the first time earlier this month. Some felt the song was insensitive during a time when so many people have lost their jobs due to the global pandemic.

What made matters worse is Shelton is one of the richest singers in country music. According to Forbes magazine, he makes $26 million a year from his role as a coach on “The Voice.” Combining his wealth with fiance Gwen Stefani, they are reportedly worth more than $250 million.

Blake Shelton did respond to the criticism via Twitter. ““When your fans Ronnie Dunn and Sammy Hagar have your back, it’s going to be a good year. Bring it on 2021.”
