Blake Shelton Shares Thanksgiving Message: ‘There is Still Plenty to Be Thankful For’ in 2020

by Emily Morgan

Despite the dumpster fire that is 2020, Blake Shelton reminded us that we should all remember to be thankful for what we have.

The country music singer should have no problem recognizing what he has to celebrate this Thanksgiving. He and his longtime girlfriend Gwen Stefani are celebrating Thanksgiving as an engaged couple this year. In October, the 44-year-old country star popped the question to Stefani at his Tishomingo, Oklahoma, ranch.

“Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020…and the rest of my life,” Shelton tweets of the engagement. “I love you. I heard yes!”

2020: A Year of Milestones For Blake Shelton

Earlier this month, the couple released a live video of their single “Happy Anywhere.” The hit track is the fourth collaboration between Stefani and Shelton. The song is an expression of the two becoming closer due to the isolation of the coronavirus pandemic.

Certainly, Stefani has made quite a positive difference for Shelton’s 2020. In a statement, he said, “We’ve all been in quarantine and lockdown, and hopefully we’ve been doing that with somebody that we really love and enjoy being around. That’s what happened with Gwen and me this summer — and this entire year.”

Besides the engagement, Shelton has his recent American Music Award win to be thankful for. He won the award for “Best Country Album” for his work on “Fully Loaded: God’s Country.” In his acceptance speech, he told his fans the win wouldn’t have been possible without their support, saying, “Thank y’all for voting and showing so much support to this album.. y’all made this happen and it means the world!!! Love y’all!”

Life for the country star wasn’t always a fairytale. Things looked quite different for Blake Shelton in 2001 when he was scraping by to pay his rent. In an interview from that year, he describes the experience.

“You know what, I was a guy who, this April, didn’t know how in the world I was gonna pay my rent,” Shelton began. “And now I’m a guy that, at this moment, I still don’t know how I’m gonna pay my rent, but I’m outta town so much, it really doesn’t matter anymore, y’know what I mean?”
