Brantley Gilbert “can’t believe it’s been 7 years” since he released his number one hit song, “Bottoms Up.”
Gilbert released his Friday night drinking song in 2014 as the lead single from his third studio album, Just as I Am. The song is about the pleasures of meeting up with some buddies and a love interest for some drinks on the weekends. Gilbert sings, “Tonight is bottoms up. Throw it on down. Rock this quiet little country town. Get up, drop the tailgate on ya truck. Find a keg and fill ya cup up.” The song spent 26 weeks on the Hot Country Songs chart and peaked in the number one spot.
In celebration of his musical anniversary, Gilbert shared the song on Twitter. Along with a clip from his music video and a link to the song, Gilbert writes “Can’t believe it’s been 7 years since we released #bottomsup…. Kick it on back and turn it up loud to celebrate #bgnation.”
Brantley Gilbert Has Been Sober For 9 Years
Gilbert is well-known for his bad-boy image and drinking songs. However, he actually hasn’t had a drink in years. During an interview, Gilbert shares why he decided to quit drinking.
“I am still around it. I still party my butt off, man,” he said. “It’s just some people can do that and have a good time with that, some folks can’t,” said Gilbert. I got to a place in my life where I needed to take that friend in my life out – you know what I mean? So I could get back to the real ones.”
In the same interview, Gilbert says that people frequently ask him why he continues to record drinking songs if he struggled with a drinking problem. However, Gilbert says that he will continue to record party songs for his fans.
“…When I drank, I drank 10 times more than the majority of people drink in 10 lifetimes. I earned my stripes. I can sing drinking songs for the rest of my life if I want to.”
Last month, Gilbert shared his accomplishments on Instagram. Along with a photo with his family, Gilbert writes “9 years drink free today, and couldn’t have done it without my family, my brothers, my road family and the #bgnation…. If y’all pop a top today drink one for ya boy…”
