Carrie Underwood is one of the most famous country music stars and her music is beloved by many, but that doesn’t always protect her from social media backlash. In the last few weeks, the “Cry Pretty” vocalist shared several posts on Instagram that received criticism.
Here’s the three posts from the 37-year-old singer that had some users in an uproar:
The CALIA by Carrie Yoga Pants
At the end of September, Underwood shared a photo of her new CALIA by Carrie yoga pants. She asked her followers if they are “ready” for the new items in the caption, but many on Instagram took issue with the prices.
“Your items are cute but not affordable for a working woman,” a user writes. “I really like the styles, but very pricey” another commented.
On the official CALIA by Carrie website, the prices on many of the yoga pants range from around $40 to $100. However, the price wasn’t the only thing that Instagram users called out. Others voiced complaints about the sizing options.
“Remember we all aren’t size 8. Think of the bigger girls,” one user writes. “More plus size friendly please?” another commented.

Carrie’s Mask at Target
Also in late September, the mother of two found herself on the receiving end of social media outrage over a picture of her wearing a mask at Target. She shared a photo of herself holding up her new Christmas album at the retail giant.
Underwood shared the post with the caption: “As per tradition, had to go buy the CD at the store! As not per tradition, I had to wear a mask! I promise I’m smiling, though!”
The CMA award winner was met with a swift reaction from some Instagram users that take issue with the COVID-19 mask mandates. “Don’t be a commie. Take the mask off,” one user wrote.
“Girl. Take off that mask!” another writes. “Pull the mask down and smile for the picture. Quit being complicit in the lunacy,” a user commented.
While some criticized her for wearing the mask, others rushed to her defense.
“She is wearing the mask A) she cares and B) it’s likely required,” one user writes. “I shall do the same when I buy your new cd,” another commented.
Underwood didn’t specify which Target location she visited to purchase the album, but on the store’s official website, the company writes that nearly 90% of stores required masks.

Carrie Underwood & John Legend’s Christmas Duet
Of her recent posts, Underwood received the heaviest backlash after announcing that she partnered with John Legend for a duet on her new Christmas album, “My Gift.” Many users slammed Underwood for the “Hallelujah” duet with Legend, who holds political opinions they disagree with.
“So disappointed you teamed up with him,” one user writes. “Sorry Carrie, John Legend doesn’t care about America and he does not deserve to make millions here,” a user commented. “Bad choice to duet with. You’re better than that!”
Some users were so angered about the duet that they vowed to never buy Underwood’s music again in the future. “If John Legend is singing with you forget me buying anymore of your music,” one user commented.
Even though some on social media were disappointed about the duet, that didn’t stop the album from being a chart-topping success. Last week, the album officially went No. 1 on Billboard’s Country, Christian, and Holiday charts. According to Underwood, the album was something she “always wanted to make.” Learn more here.
