Carrie Underwood reached out to her country music star friend, Miranda Lambert, following the passing of one of her beloved dogs.

Lambert announced on her Instagram on Friday that her rescue dog, Waylon, had died. In a lengthy caption, she writes about how she got the pup and his sister, Jessi. She further explains what the two mean to the Lambert family.

The star also posted a collage of six pictures from throughout Waylon’s life. Waylon looks to be a golden retriever mutt and is laying twice next to shoes, which we can only assume are a favorite chew toy. He also poses with his sister Jessi three times.

She announces his death along with the story of rescuing the two in Oklahoma in 2008.

Miranda Lambert says she found them “starving and freezing nearly to death. I was listening to Jessi Colter and Waylon Jennings at the time me and mom saw them and pulled over to pick them up.”

At the vet after rescuing the dogs, Lambert learned Waylon’s dedication to his sister led to his malnourishment and Jessi’s survival. “Whatever they had found to eat while they were homeless, he always let her eat first. He did that nearly his whole life. She said he probably wouldn’t make it, but he did. For almost 13 years,” Lambert explains.

In conclusion, she finishes off the caption with, “Hug your pups today y’all. #rescuedog #dogmom @muttnation.”

Underwood and Others Pay Their Respects

The post has received over 200,000 likes and 10,100 comments, including many from fellow country music stars.

Carrie Underwood commented on the post, saying, “😢…sending lots of love and hugs.” Lambert responded to the comment with, “thank you friend Really hard day💙.”

Randy Houser also wrote on the post, saying, “Sorry buddy. I don’t wanna even think about losing our boy. Love to you all.” While Brittany Aldean, wife of Jason Aldean, said, “Nothing like the love of a dog😔 so sorry, girl💔 praying for y’all.”

Lambert is famous for being a hard-core dog lover. She even made a nonprofit to honor her beloved rescue mutts, called MuttNation. The nonprofit’s mission is to help people within the music community impacted by COVID-19 with their pets’ medical bills. They also help donate to shelters across the country.

The Instagram account for the nonprofit reposted Lambert’s photo with their own tribute. “We’re so sad to have lost a member of our MuttNation family today. Sending lots of love and prayers to you, Miranda 💕.”

Waylon was one of nine dogs Lambert has rescued.
