Carrie Underwood is Excited for Fans to See CMA Country Jam Duets with Dwight Yoakam: ‘He Just Oozes Coolness’

by Taylor Cunningham

The CMA Summer Jam airing is almost here. The three-hour country-fest, which was recorded in July, will play on September 2nd.

The lineup will replace the CMA Fest, which has been canceled for two years straight due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 20 mega-stars lent their vocals to the Nashville, Tennessee music festival.

And among them was Carrie Underwood. The American Idol winner took the stage with the 64-year-old country legend Dwight Yoakam and the up and coming starlet Mickey Guyton

People recently talked with Carrie and asked her about what’s in store for the Summer Jam show, and Carrie was excited for everyone to watch her perform with Yoakam.

“We get to sing a couple of [Yoakam’s] songs together, which I’m super excited about, ’cause he just oozes coolness,” she told them.

During the live performances, Carrie Underwood joined Yoakam to sing his singles A Thousand Miles From Nowhere and Guitars, Cadillacs. But, we’ll have to see what airs during the ABC special.

Carrie didn’t just gush to People about singing with a country icon. She also told her Instagram family about her experience with Yoakam.

“Never in a million years would I have thought I would get to share the stage with someone this cool!” she wrote. “[ Dwight Yoakam], you are a LEGEND and, now, a friend as well! Thank you!”

Be sure to catch the two on September 2nd at 8/7c on ABC.

Carrie Underwood Announces Collaboration With Dan + Shay

It seems Carrie Underwood is in the business of teaming up with country music greats, and we’re thrilled. Aside from her upcoming duets with Dwight Yoakam, we have another collaboration to look forward to. This time with Dan + Shay.

On Monday, Dan + Shay hinted that they had something in store with Underwood when they posted a video of a live orchestra recording on Instagram and tagged the Grammy award-winning songstress.

Then on Tuesday, Carrie made her own announcement on social media. She and the Speechless singers are going to be featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming movie, Dear Evan Hansen.

“I’m so excited to share that I teamed up with @danandshay to record a very special song for the #DearEvanHansenMovie Original Motion Picture Soundtrack!” she wrote. Their single, Only Us, will be unveiled on Friday. And the soundtrack is available for preorder now.

Dear Evan Hansen is an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical of the same name. The story follows a high school senior who suffers from social anxiety.
