During a recent interview, country singer Chris Young spoke about his new single “Famous Friends” featuring longtime pal Kane Brown.

The collaboration reunites the two good friends that have worked together multiple times, in the studio and on the road. The pair released “Famous Friends” on Friday, and Young described the new single as “fun” and “super uptempo.”

“Kane and I have gotten to know each other over the years,” Young told PEOPLE. “From him being on tours with me, from us writing together, from me guesting on his album in the past. All of this stuff came together. [The song] is fun, it’s super uptempo and I got to sing with my buddy Kane. All of this worked out as perfect as it possibly could on one song. This one has a lot of truth in it, as far as everybody that gets named in this song is an actual person.”

Young says the song is basically about hometowns and the people you grew up with. Both country stars mention their hometown in the lyrics. Young shouts out his hometown of Rutherford, Tennessee and Brown sings about Hamilton County, Georgia.

“I wrote this with two of my buddies, Corey Crowder and Cary Barlowe. The same two guys that I wrote ‘Raised on Country’ with. We actually wrote this the same weekend. This was the same bus trip,” Young explained. “‘Famous Friends’ was really that kind of song about your hometown and the people you grew up with. There’s so many little special things about this that I’m so glad that it’s going to get out there and see the light of day.”

Young Already Has a New Music Video in Mind

The two country musicians first met years ago through a mutual friend. In fact, not long after meeting, they began to write music together for Brown’s first album. Subsequently, the pair collaborated on Brown’s RIAA gold-certified single “There Goes My Everything” from 2016. Young said teaming up with Brown once again came about organically through a series of texts with his friend.

“This was completely organic,” Young says of the new song. “This is just between me and him and me shooting him a text saying, ‘Hey, do you want to be on this song?’ And him actually posting it this summer. He was like, ‘Yeah, we’ve been listening to it out on the boat on the lake and everybody loves it.'”

Young has already been thinking of concepts for a music video for “Famous Friends.” He wants the video to be centered on people, places and things that are important to each of the musicians.

“[There will be a] gradual build throughout the video where you see things that are important to me and things that are important to him — even if it’s people, if it’s places, whatever that is. Then, towards the end of the video there’s a big reveal,” Young says of the video concept.

However, he’s not completely sold on the idea just yet. Young jokingly says that if someone else has a better idea for the new video, he may end up shooting that instead.

“Somebody may come along with some idea I didn’t even think of. And I’d be like, ‘Uh, yeah. Let’s shoot that!'” Young joked.

“Famous Friends” by Chris Young and Kane Brown is out now on all music streaming services.
