In a huge win, Carly Pearce and Lee Brice have won Musical Event of the Year for the 54th Annual CMA Awards with their collaboration “I Hope You’re Happy Now”!
With this award, the duo takes home one of the impressive three awards their song is up for. Carly Pearce is celebrating the win with a video on Instagram. Within, the artist bursts into well-deserved tears amid her interview. Ever humble, Pearce is clearly taken over with complete shock as she covers her mouth.
“GUYS I WAS SITTING DOING INTERVIEWS AND GOT THE NEWS THAT [Lee Brice] AND I WON ‘MUSICAL EVENT OF THE YEAR,'” she celebrates on Instagram. “This was the moment I found out as I sobbed on the phone in my PJs. Thank you, thank you, thank you. In a year that started as the hardest I’ve ever experienced, YALL are helping me see the big, bright, BEAUTIFUL light at the end of the tunnel.”
Lee Brice is losing it, too. In a congruent post to his own account, Brice says it all. He is, however, playing it a lot more cool.
“Well this is pretty cool news to wake up to!! Thank you [CMA]!!” Brice says. Unfortunately for this half of the duo, however, Brice has positive results for his COVID-19 results. As a result, he is unable to perform alongside Pearce for their live CMA rendition. Instead, Pearce will go at it alongside Lady A’s Charles Kelley.
CMA Awards Song “Means Extra” To Carly Pearce
“I Hope You’re Happy Now” is a hit written by both Lee Brice and Luke Combs. In addition, Randy Montana and Jonathan Singleton co-wrote the song.
“That’s on another level,” Pearce says of the win. “You realize how important songs are when you do this and you realize how many great songs happen. And to think that I was recognized as a songwriter, solely, on something that was so special and so personal to me, that is very, very special to me because it shows something outside of just Carly Pearce.”
“I Hope You’re Happy Now” is a hit that “means extra” to Pearce. Her late producer, Busbee, was a champion for the star early in her country music days.
“It’s the little gift that keeps giving,” she reveals. “This song started from me asking Luke Combs at a radio show, ‘Hey, will you write a song with me?’ To then see Lee come and absolutely sing it into the rafters, to then all of this. Also, on a personal note, it is the last song that busbee, my producer, worked on before he got sick and passed away from brain cancer. And I could not think of a more special moment for the person that gave me so much.”
