Fast forward over five decades, and staples like Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood dominate the category. Each is nominated on a near-yearly basis. This year, for 2020, the five “chosen ones” were:
Last year, 2019’s winner – Kacey Musgraves – became the first winner since 2009 to not be Lambert or Underwood. Miranda Lambert still holds the record for most awarded female vocalist ever in this category. Before her winning streak alongside Underwood, however, 2008 & 2009 saw Taylor Swift take home the crown.
Trailing behind Underwood’s 5 wins, Martina McBride has also won the award an impressive four times.
There’s no doubt that Maren Morris had to be beyond thrilled with her competition for this award – and terrified. Phenomenally talented black card – Ashley McBryde – receives her first nomination for the category this year, as well.
