On Wednesday, November 11, at 8:00 p.m., all the stars will come together at the 2020 CMA Awards in a show that promises to be “fully safe” and “physically distant.”

The CMA’s have said that they are committed to holding the show in person. However, similar shows like the CMT’s and the ACM’s were completely virtual. Performances were pre-recorded and winners would Skype in to give awards speeches.

The CMAs made a statement about their decision. “The 54th annual CMA Awards will mark the first time the biggest names in country music will come together—safely, all in one room—this year.”

CMA Awards Change Locations

The show has also made the decision to switch locations. Originally the spacious Bridgestone Arena hosted it. Now, the show will take place in the much smaller Music City Center. The show has taken place at the Bridgestone Arena from 2006 to 2019.

Chief executive officer for the CMA’s, Sarah Trahern avoided answering why there was a change of locations. However, she did say, “Although the show will feel a bit more intimate this year, we look forward to hosting our nominated artists and their guests as we celebrate the best of country music in a fully safe and physically distant environment. It will be an honor to bring the biggest country stars in the world together – in one room – for the first time this year. You won’t want to miss it!”

Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker will host the show. In addition, the two “will take the stage together for an emotional, groundbreaking tribute performance”. It has not been clarified who the tribute will be dedicated to.

ABC will be airing the 54th Annual CMA Awards.

Performing at the awards will be Maren Morris, Gabby Barrett, Miranda Lambert, Ashley McBryde, and Luke Combs. In addition, Thomas Rhett, Darius Rucker, Eric Church, Florida Georgia Line, and Rascal Flatts will also make an appearance.
