CMA Awards 2021: TV Ratings Released for Wednesday Award Show

The ratings are in and the CMA Awards 2021 had a flat night in that regard. While there were great performances, audiences just didn’t tune in. This is a trend for all awards shows as of late.

When things were all said and done, the 55th Country Music Association Awards brought in 6.6 million viewers with a 1.1 demo rating. Those numbers are consistent with the audience low from last year. While producers and ABC were likely hoping for an increase from last year the fact they are able to hold steady is a good sign. Other shows have been in freefall in recent years.

Meanwhile, on the other networks, the usual shows were on. It seemed that almost everything dropped viewers without much of a dip in the demo. However, there were shows that saw an increase in viewers. The show with the most success on the night was probably CSI: Vegas that saw an uptick in views and demo. The Chicago One slate did not do so well with each show losing viewers. Fire, as well as P.D., dropped in the demo.

While the viewers didn’t turn out in droves, over six million people watched the CMA Awards 2021 and what a show they got. It was a night where Eric Church and Chris Stapleton came in with the same number of nominations. By the end of the night, it was Stapleton’s night to enjoy. He made out with 4 out of 5 awards he was nominated for.

It was a night to remember for the Traveller.

Chris Stapleton Owns the Night at the CMA Awards 2021

Seriously, there wasn’t an artist that had the night Stapleton had last night at the CMA Awards 2021. He came away with an armful of awards. Album, Song, and Single of the Year as well as Male Vocalist of the Year. While Luke Combs took Entertainer of the Year, Stapleton has nothing to complain about.

It wasn’t just the awards that he took home, it was the two performances he put on during the show. First, he got things going with a rendition of You Are My Sunshine along with Jennifer Hudson. Then, he took the stage and belted out a spine-chilling rendition of Cold. He made his guitar weep and of course, his vocals brought all the power and emotion. With string section behind him, the performance was too good.

So, the CMA Awards 2021 are over, but the awards season continues. There are more shows and more trophies to be given out by various organizations. That includes the American Music Awards coming up later this year. Fans are going to be eager to see Carrie Underwood perform again live on stage with Jason Aldean. Give us more Stapleton, though.
