Video of the Year is one of the most sought-after awards each year at the annual CMT Awards. And, 2021 was no exception.
When the dust settled and all of the fans’ votes were tallied, Carrie Underwood and John Legend emerged victorious on Wednesday, June 9. Their winning video was for their collaboration on “Hallelujah.”
Underwood and Legend were also part of an original field of 14 nominees up for the CMT Awards 2021 Video of the Year. Because it is an award that the fans vote on, taking home this prize is especially meaningful. This fact was not lost on Underwood, who accepted the award for the duo.
“Fans! Thank you so much, fans!” a very excited Underwood said. “You guys, you’re the reason that we are all here doing what we do, doing what we love, making music videos. Thank you, so much!”
Underwood also thanked legend during her acceptance speech during the the CMT Awards 2021.
“Of course, John Legend, thank you for sending me this incredible song. And, agreeing to sing it with me on it and making this incredible video, which I’m so proud of,” Underwood also said.
She also congratulated her famous collaborated on what she believed was his first CMT Award.
Fans were able to vote for their chosen Video of the Year winner beginning during the morning hours of Wednesday. The voting continued into the broadcast on Wednesday night.

There were 14 Videos Originally Nominated for Video of the Year at the CMT Awards 2021
The original field of nominees for Video of the Year at the CMT Awards 2021 included some of the biggest names in music today.
Eventually, the field of 14 was narrowed down to six nominees, then to only four. Making it to the final round of four were: Carrie Underwood and John Legend for “Hallelujah”; Kane Brown for “Worldwide Beautiful”; Keith Urban and P!nk for “One Too Many” and Kelsea Ballerini for “hole in the bottle.”
Making it to the top six, but not the top four were Elle King and Miranda Lambert for “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home)” and Kenny Chesney for “Knowing You.”
With the field of Video of the Year nominees down to the final four, fans were tasked with going to Twitter to select their winner from that list. To vote, music fans were asked to use hashtags specific to each video.
