CMT Awards 2021: Maren Morris, Gabby Barrett Back Out of Performances at Award Show

The 2021 CMT Awards are scheduled to air on television tonight (Wednesday, June 9). However, the show will move forward without two of the artists who were originally scheduled to perform.

According to, those two performers are Maren Morris and Gabby Barrett. Both country music stars announced their respective decisions not to perform at the awards show on Tuesday. And, both reportedly cited “personal reasons” and “scheduling conflicts.”

With Morris and Barrett no longer performing on the awards show, other artists will be stepping up to fill the vacant spaces. These artists include Ingrid Andress, JP Saxe, Lindsey Ell, Lady A, and Carly Pearce. Andress and Saxe will perform “Line by Line.” Ell will also take the stage with Lady A and Pearce.

Morris, Barrett Announce Decisions to Back Out of CMT Awards 2021 Via Social Media

Both Marren Morris and Gabby Barrett posted about their decisions not to perform on Instagram.

The 31-year-old Morris used an Instagram story to share the news that she wouldn’t take the stage at the CMT Awards 2021 in Nashville. Morris also said she was confident that JP Saxe will do a great job when he takes the stage on Wednesday night.

“Due to a scheduling conflict, I will not be performing at the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday. I know @jpsaxe will slay it and I am so excited for his album to come out soon!” Morris posted.

The 21-year-old Barrett shared a similar message on Instagram. In addition to sharing the news that she wouldn’t be performing this year, she also took a walk down memory lane. And, who can blame her? It was an important moment in her life and career after all.

“Still thinking back to last year’s CMT Music Awards performance and my very first award win. Such a special moment that I will never forget,” Barrett shared.

She also said she was looking forward to seeing the performances at Wednesday’s ceremony.

“I’m really sad to share that because of personal circumstances I won’t be able to perform with @ladya and @carlypearce on Wednesday at the @cmt Music Awards! I’ll be rooting for you guys and all of the incredibly talented nominees and performers! So appreciate all of your support and will see yall on the road this summer :),” Barrett also shared.

Maren Morris and Gabby Barrett are both nominated for the Female Video of the Year. Barrett is nominated for “The Good Ones” while Morris is nominated for “To Hell & Back.”

The 2021 CMT Music Awards will begin at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 9. The ceremony will air on TV Land, MTV, MTV2, Logo, and Paramount Network.
