When you’re clicking around and looking for the CMT Music Awards, then you’ll now know that they have a new home on CBS.

ViacomCBS announced on Monday that the awards show will start airing on CBS starting in 2022, according to an article from PopCulture. No date has been announced as of yet, but the fan-voted awards will be handed out in Nashville.

The 2021 CMT Music Awards show saw a 10 percent increase in viewership over 2020’s show. This is one reason that CBS decided to take a shot and bring the show onto its main network. CMT fans will probably be wondering what will be showing on that network.

CMT Music Awards Will Receive Second Airing With Added Touch on CMT

Well, according to ViacomCBS, CMT will be airing a “director’s cut” version of the CMT Music Awards and other Viacom networks. Its also being reported that CBS is in talks to renew its deal for the Academy of Country Music Awards.

The CMT Music Awards actually has some deep history to it. The country music fans’ award show is the oldest show of its type to be shown on MTV. But let’s take some steps back even further in Nashville history.

Underwood, Barrett, Brown Among 2021 Show’s Award Winners

The “Music City News” magazine decided to start up the Music City News Awards in 1967. Then in 1999, that awards show combined with The Nashville Network’s Viewers’ Choice Awards. The show moved to CMT [Country Music Television] in 2001. As for the awards show’s format, its stayed as is pretty much since 2005.

Among the winners at the 2021 CMT Music Awards were Carrie Underwood and John Legend for “Video of the Year,” Gabby Barrett for “Female Video of the Year,” and Kane Brown for “Male Video of the Year.”

Brown and Kelsea Ballerini were co-hosts for the 2021 CMT Music Awards show.

Who performed at this year’s awards show earlier in June? Among them were Brothers Osborne, Dierks Bentley, Maren Morris, JP Saxes, Mickey Guyton, and Gladys Knight. Miranda Lambert took the stage with “Marfa Tapes” collaborators Jack Ingram and Jon Randall. Chris Stapleton and Luke Combs also performed during the awards show. Yes, Underwood also performed, too.

The CMT Music Awards gives the fans a voice in picking who deserves recognition for their work in country music. Awards shows overall have not been getting as many viewers in recent years. But the CMT show has been bucking that trend, especially in the 18-49 key demographic.

Country music fans are known as some of the most loyal music fans around. The fact that the CMT Music Awards will now air on a major network in CBS simply will give the show a bigger audience to air great music.
