Cody Jinks Reveals ‘Demos Are Done on 20 New Songs’

Cody Jinks teases new fans about new music in a recent Twitter post.

The singer/songwriter is back at it in 2021 with new music. Jinks’s last two albums both hit it big on the charts. He released I’m Not the Devil, in 2016 and it reached number four on the Billboard Country Albums chart. He followed up with another chart-topping album in 2018, Lifers, which reached number two on the same chart. Now, Jinks is revealing his plans for a new album this year.

Jinks posted on Twitter, “Demos are done on 20 new songs. Now we just need to schedule some studio time.”

Is ‘I’m Not The Devil’ About Cody Jinks’s Life?

The title track to Jinks 2016 album is about a man having a conversation with the woman he’s dating. During the song Jinks sings, “It ain’t no excuse, but I’m just a man. I slipped and I fell, it got out of hand. But I’m not the devil you think that I am. And I’ll spend forever, do all that I can. To prove I’m not the devil you think that I am.”

Jinks has been married for over 19 years. Did he write the song about a conversation with his wife? During an interview, Jinks reveals the story behind the song.

“That song is based in real life, but I don’t want to get too specific on the actual conversation it came from,” says Jinks. “We decided to leave the song open-ended in terms of what the main issue is; it might be cheating or falling off the wagon or something else. But for me, I’ve been with the same woman for 19 years, so I do know there have been plenty of times when a wife thinks her husband’s a piece of s***.”

Despite the origins of the song, “I’m Not The Devil” is both relatable and challenging – something Jinks says he strives to do when creating music.

“I like making things both approachable and challenging. The greatest compliment I can get is when someone tells me their Grandmother loves my stuff even though she doesn’t like any current country music. When I hear that, I feel like I’m doing my job,” says Jinks.
