Cody Johnson Reveals ‘Yellowstone’ Creator Taylor Sheridan Wants Him for ‘Part’ in New Movie

by Katie Maloney

Cody Johnson could be adding “actor” to his list of accomplishments pretty soon.

Certainly, Cody Johnson is an ambitious and successful man. Johnson has worked as a rodeo pro. He’s a singer-songwriter who self-released six albums before finally signing with a major record label. He became the only unsigned artist in history to sell out NRG Stadium at RodeoHouston, selling 74,000 tickets for a single show. And, his life and work are featured in the new documentary “Dear Rodeo.” In conclusion, there’s not a whole lot Cody Johnson hasn’t done. But there is one thing his fans would love to see him do – star in “Yellowstone.”

During an interview with Audacy’s Rob + Holly, Holly asked Johnson why, as such a pioneering and badass cowboy, he hasn’t yet starred in “Yellowstone.” And Johnson gave an unexpected answer. He actually teased a new project he’s working on with “Yellowstone” co-creator Taylor Sheridan.

“I know Taylor Sheridan pretty well,” said Johnson. “And he’s asked me to take a part in a new movie he’s doing. But I can’t really tell you a whole lot about that.”

However, Holly then asked if the project was confirmed. She wanted to know if Cody Johnson agreed to the role in Sheridan’s new movie.

“Oh yea, yea. We just have to figure it out around my tour schedule,” said Johnson. “That’s the only problem, I’m booked through the end of the year.”

That’s a pretty good problem to have – struggling to schedule a major movie appearance while selling out concerts around the country. As we said before, Cody Johnson is a badass. We just hope we hear more details about this upcoming movie soon. Listen to the full interview below.

Cody Johnson Plans to Release a Double Album

If any of you thought that Cody Johnson might be slowing down any time soon, you’re wrong. Not only is Johnson not slowing down, but he also seems like he’s raising the bar even higher for his work. During the same interview, Johnson shared that he plans to release a double album.

“The double album, kind of like the documentary, kind of just happened,” said Johnson. “I had too many good songs. There were just so many good songs, I just couldn’t turn them down.”

Host Holly then asked Johnson if he intentionally creates music his fans can two-step to.

“One hundred percent,” said Johnson. “That’s the culture I grew up with. You go out to the honky-tonk. You take your girlfriend out to dinner and then after you go dancing. That’s just kind of the culture I grew up in. I feel like all my music should have some sort of rhythm or groove where you can dance to it.”

We cannot wait for a double album full of music we can two-step to!
