Ahead of tonight’s annual CMT Awards, we’re looking back on one moment from last year’s event that left us all shocked. As you’ll recall, it wasn’t the performances or presenters that had online users up in arms, but Noah Cyrus’ outift— or should we say lack of one.
Noah Cyrus took the stage at the 2020 awards show alongside Jimmie Allen to perform their chart-topping song at the time, “This Is Us.” Yet it wasn’t the music that had people buzzing, but Cyrus’ nude rhinestoned bodysuit that left little to the imagination.
Allen began the performance in a glittering silver coat and black pants. Cyrus then took the stage for the duet. Cyrus accessorized the slinky look with a sparkly white cowboy hat, gloves, and thigh-high white leather boots.
Noah Cyrus Had Social Media In A Tizzy At 2020 CMT Awards
Taking a page out of sister’s playbook, Cyrus had online users up in arms after the performance. Users were quick to offer up their opinion, good or bad, on the one-of-a-kind get-up.
“This outfit is so distasteful for CMT,” one person wrote at the time. “Why is she wearing that?” another asked. “This outfit breaks my achy breaky heart, CMT. Just NO,” a follower commented— referring to her dad’s most well-known song of the ’90s.
In contrast, many of her fans couldn’t get enough of the look. “I NEED an outfit post with details! Yes!!!!” wrote one fan. “That outfit is gorgeous. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise,” another said.
Even news outlets had to decide how to cover her revealing look. On Fox News’ website, the outlet blurred Cyrus’ private areas, which Cyrus commented on via her Instagram stories at the time. In a screenshot captured by The Blast, Cyrus clapped back at Fox. “@foxnews it’s skin tone underwear but thanks for blurring my thighs.” Cyrus then concluded the statement by writing, “Vote Biden!”
While we have no idea what outfit she’ll be rocking for tonight’s ceremony, we do know that she’s slated to perform. The CMT Music Awards will honor acts in country music and share its stage with pop and R&B stars, including Gladys Knight, Pink, John Legend, Halsey, C.E.R., and Noah Cyrus.
This year’s CMT Music Awards highlights 13 first-time nominees, including Cyrus, Dylan Scott, Hailey Whitters, HARDY, Lainey Wilson, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff, Niko Moon, Noah Cyrus, Parmalee, Ryan Hurd, Tyler Hubbard, and Willie Jones.
