On this day 26 years ago, country star duo Brooks & Dunn found out that their debut album Brand New Man had been certified quadruple platinum.
Three years after the group released 1991’s Brand New Man, the album reached sales of more than 4 million units. In addition, their title track and debut single “Brand New Man” shot up the Billboard charts to number one. The success of the single earned Brooks & Dunn the honor of being only the second country band to reach the top of the charts with a debut song.
In fact, Brand New Man produced four consecutive No. 1 singles on the country charts. The No. 1 songs included “Brand New Man”, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie”, “My Next Broken Heart”, and “Neon Moon.” Additionally, their fifth single off their debut album “Lost and Found” climbed to No. 6 on the charts.
The band quickly became one of country music’s hottest acts, and their album sales proved just that. By 1994, Brand New Man was certified quadruple platinum, which marked the first time that any country duo’s album had earned that sales status.
Fans continued to buy Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn‘s first album for years to come. Thus, Brand New Man has gone on to sell more than 6 million copies to date.
Furthermore, eight of their 10 studio albums have been certified platinum – sold at least one million copies. Also, three of their compilation records have been certified platinum as well. Yet, out of the millions of albums the band has sold, Brand New Man is still the best-selling album of their three decade career.
Brooks & Dunn Enlist Luke Combs for ‘Brand New Man’ Remake
In 2019, Brooks & Dunn remade “Brand New Man” for their Reboot album, which featured fellow country star Luke Combs. Reboot, their 11th studio album, featured 12 new versions of their classic songs remade as duets with other country artists.
The official music video for the song gave fans a behind-the-scenes peak into the recording process. It shows Brooks, Dunn, Combs, and numerous studio musicians creating the new version of the song.
“When their music was coming out, it was kind of like the heyday of me being a kid in the car with my parents listening to the radio,” Combs said of the duo. “So I just gravitated heavily towards Brooks & Dunn.”
