If you’ve ever had any doubts about whether Carrie Underwood is one of the best country singers of our time, buckle up.

During a 2006 radio show, Underwood proved herself as a force to be reckoned with when she performed a flawless rendition of a quintessential ballad.

Known as one of Dolly Parton’s most beloved songs of all time, “I Will Always Love You” has been covered by many artists of all musical genres.

While many people have put their own spin on “I Will Always Love You,” few have moved listeners, such as Dolly Parton and Whitney Houston.

However, there was an exception when Underwood put her take on the classic love song.

In 2016, during an appearance on the Bobby Bones radio show, Underwood gave a go at the famous son. This time she opted for acoustic performance as part of the show’s special segment, “Joy Week.”

Carrie Underwood’s Cover Proves Her To Be Vocal Powerhouse

Underwood’s take is a beautifully soulful performance that is both heartfelt and sincere— beginning the casual performance with a quiet, whisper-like voice showcasing the song’s sweetness in its lyrics. But the moments that will genuinely take your breath away are when she hits those high, powerful notes with a perfect level of strength and grace.

She ends the performance the same way she started it: singing softly yet again. However, she seamlessly adds in more high notes as she raises her voice, making it a once-in-a-lifetime performance.

Afterward, Underwood received well-earned applause for her performance, guaranteed to leave you with goosebumps.

After Parton released the ballad in 1974, it quickly became a No. 1 country hit and was later picked up and covered by legendary singer Whitney Houston.

Houston’s version of the song peaked at the No. 1 spot on the “Billboard Hot 100” and became a worldwide commercial success, topping charts internationally.

Throughout her long-winded career, Underwood has performed the tune many times. She even included her cover as a part of her Storyteller tour setlist.

In 2009, during “The Carrie Underwood: All-Star Holiday Special,” Parton and Underwood gave a breathtaking duet of the hit. Her performance forever signifying she had the chops to keep up with Parton on the song.
