George Strait brought many famous friends along with him as he rode away from the limelight during the final show of his Cowboy Rides Away Tour. Jason Aldean was one of the many guests to join the country legend as they tipped their hats to Strait.

George Strait rode into the AT&T Coliseum in Arlington, TX on June 7, 2014.

George Strait & the Cowboy Rides Away Tour

The country icon held the largest concert at that time with over 104,000 fans in attendance to bid a fond farewell. Strait had announced the Cowboy Rides Away tour would be his last.

Country musicians, such as Jason Aldean, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Martina McBride, and several other of country music’s finest performers all rode along with Strait during his final performance.

Jason Aldean Joins Many Country Stars to Bid Farewell

Jason Aldean joined Strait to perform the cowboy’s first No. 1 hit single “Fool Hearted Memory.”

“Fool Hearted Memory” was recorded in 1981. It was the first single to be played on the radio from his album Strait From the Heart. The record included ten tracks, including “Amarillo Morning” and “Marina Del Ray.” However, the song performed with Aldean during the final show is the first of Strait’s top 60 No. 1 country singles.

The crowd erupted in applause, sprinkled with some “yee-haws” upon Strait walking onto the stage. He started the concert off with “Check Yes or No.” He then brought out Vince Gill, and Aldean followed.

“I can’t tell you excited I am,” George said during the opening of the show. “It’s been on my mind since we started this a couple of years ago.”

The Ending of the Famous Tour

In 2012, George announced he wouldn’t be hitting the road anymore following the 2014 tour. Although he expressed he’d still occasionally play concerts and record music.

“We’ve got lots of special guests coming up tonight,” he added.

The legend followed through with his promise. The final performance of “The Cowboy Rides Away” led all of the performers back onstage during the finale act.

“This has been such a special evening for me,” said Strait. “Thank you for all the years of support.”
