Country star Jon Pardi is known for songs like “Dirt On My Boots” and “Head Over Boots.” In other words, straight-up country tunes.

But in March of 2016, Pardi proved he can also rock out to songs outside the country genre — such as “You Shook Me All Night Long.”

Jon Pardi Covers AC/DC’s Hit Song

The song is an AC/DC hit from the 1980s. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. When they were, they actually played “You Shook Me All Night Long” along with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.

In 2016, Pardi released his second studio album, California Sunrise. It ranked No. 10 on Rolling Stone’s 40 Best Country Albums of 2016 list. Pardi had a busy 2016, performing at concerts and on television shows across the country throughout the year.

The singer grew up in northern California, which is not exactly Nashville. But country influences were strong in his family, he told Southern Living last year.

“My grandmother loved country music,” Pardi explained. “That’s all she listened to. So when I was a little kid, that’s all we listened to and I loved it too… My grandma was not a great singer. She just loved to sing and entertain. I just kind of caught on from that and from listening to the great music that she would play, from Merle Haggard to Randy Travis, to George Strait, Alan Jackson. She loved Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, Waylon Jennings.”

Giving His All Onstage

Pardi moved to Nashville after high school. He says he “grew up” in Nashville, perhaps because it was there that his career took off.

The country singer now says he’s grateful to earn a living making music, and he never forgets how comparatively easy his life is.

“I think sometimes artists forget how easy we have it and I don’t ever take that for granted,” Pardi told Fox News last February. “You know, I always joke that we get to wait around all day and do a sound-check and then play two hours. But we really only work three hours then we get to drink on the job.”

There were no signs that Pardi had been drinking before his energetic performance of “You Shook Me All Night Long” that night in 2016. But it was a rowdy demonstration of how much effort Pardi pours into those few hours he spends onstage.
