Country Throwback: Keith Urban Covers ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’ in Early 1995 Nashville Show

Before he became famous, Keith Urban was like so many other would-be stars singing in Nashville clubs and hoping for the big break to come.

While performing at the Ace of Clubs in 1995, the singer wows the audience with his cover of “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” Urban let his skills as a musician take center stage during the performance. Instead of having a fiddle on stage to play the song’s famous solo, the country music star allows his guitar to do the talking.

Urban’s stage presence and star power are also evident in this decades-old video; so it is not surprising that in a few short years he would go on to be one of the biggest names in country music.

Performing alongside Keith Urban in the video are Jerry Flowers on bass and Peter Clarke on drums. It is from the Bo May – Film/Video Archive.

Urban became famous with his self-titled album released during the early 2000s. “You’ll Think of Me” is probably his most popular song; it hit No. 1 on Billboard’s country chart and won him a Grammy. Success kept coming for the singer after that, though, as he became a force in the country music industry.
