Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton have been the dynamic duo for all of the years the two musicians performed together. However, all great things must come to an end. Today we celebrate the final Rogers and Parton duet of the hit song “Islands in the Stream.”
The performance took place in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Oct. 25, 2017. Rogers was on his farewell tour, and the show not only featured a Dolly cameo, but several more appearances from some of country’s biggest stars.

The original collaboration was the seed which led to the blossoming of a great and long-lasting friendship.
It’s been 37 years since Rogers and Parton were awarded a platinum single for their duet. “Islands in the Stream” was released on August 15, 1983, and the song became an instant hit.
The song would reach the top of the charts, but most importantly, the experience brought together two talented musicians. The two never failed to entertain fans with the rich vocal combinations of Kenny and Dolly.

However, the true “awe” moment came when Dolly Parton joined her dear friend on stage to perform their final duet of “Islands in the Stream.”
It was a moving rendition that shook the room. Another beautiful scene took place as Dolly lovingly serenaded Rogers, singing “I Will Always Love You.”
The last duet the two ever performed together was “You Can’t Make Old Friends.” The song was written by Dolly, who says it is about the lasting friendship between her and Kenny. “It was you and me since way back when,” the lyrics read.
“Now that summed up our relationship,” she says.
“I’ve known Dolly for 30 years, so I think it’s so sweet of her to come here so that I can say goodbye properly,” Kenny added.
