Reba McEntire’s made a name for herself with her own collection of number one hits. She could’ve added one more to her resume, but instead, it went to George Strait.
Just like today, song demos are presented to various artists to claim as their own. Well, it seems like “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind” was one of those demos. It was originally given to McEntire first, but she passed on the song because it mentioned beer.
Shafer wrote the song about a decade before Strait recorded the song. Various versions of the song were recorded by Moe Bandy and Keith Whitley. However, the song didn’t take off until Strait released it.
