George Strait has been producing hit-after-hit since the 1980s, but none may be bigger than “All My Ex’s Live in Texas.”

The King of Country is known for his unique sound. So as soon as you hear a Strait song on the airwaves, you immediately know it’s him.

Some have said that country music isn’t what it used to be. Well, when you’re comparing it to George Strait’s 1987 classic “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” there’s definitely a different sound.

We dive into the history of the song. “All My Ex’s Live in Texas” was written by Sanger D. Schafer and his wife at the time, Lyndia Shafer. This song was Strait’s 19th single and is on the “Ocean Front Property” album.

Sanger wrote many of Strait’s hits, like “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind.” As a matter of fact, this song very well could’ve been sung by another country music icon.

Reba McEntire Passes on Hit Now Sang by George Strait

Reba McEntire’s made a name for herself with her own collection of number one hits. She could’ve added one more to her resume, but instead, it went to George Strait.

Just like today, song demos are presented to various artists to claim as their own. Well, it seems like “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind” was one of those demos. It was originally given to McEntire first, but she passed on the song because it mentioned beer.

Shafer wrote the song about a decade before Strait recorded the song. Various versions of the song were recorded by Moe Bandy and Keith Whitley. However, the song didn’t take off until Strait released it.

Preparing for the 54th CMA Awards

The country music icon is getting ready for the airing of the 54th CMA Awards by listening to some of his own hits. Strait put together a playlist featuring 25 songs that have been chart-toppers over the year for the King of Country.

The playlist features hits like “Troubadour,” “Give it Away,” and “Check Yes or No.” These are just a few hits that have made Strait’s career what it is today.

Furthermore, the 54th CMA Awards are being hosted by Reba McEntire and Darius Rucker.
