Country Throwback: Toby Keith, Blake Shelton Sing ‘Should’ve Been a Cowboy’ at 2018 Awards Show

Surprising many fans watching the show, Toby Keith and Blake Shelton teamed up at the 2018 ACM award ceremony.

The two titans of country music took to the stage to take on one of Keith’s biggest hit in “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.” For Shelton, the opportunity was a big deal as it was his first spot on the show in nine years. Fans went into a frenzy wondering which song he would choose to perform at the awards show. It turns out country music fans got a double dose of Shelton as he took the stage twice that evening.

His first choice, Blake Shelton sang “I lived it” to the delight of country music fans tuning in. Choosing that song to perform was no surprise as it was soaring up country music charts at the time.

Blake Shelton and Toby Keith Bring the House Down

It was his second appearance on stage that took show viewers by surprise. Shelton joined fellow country superstar Toby Keith for a spectacular version his 1993 hit song “Should’ve been a Cowboy.”

Country fans were elated to see two of their favorite artists on stage together singing one of the biggest hit in country history.

Before the show, ACM officials said they were planning on holding “throwback” performances. The performances would bring together current stars with country icons to celebrate the 25th anniversary of songs put out in 1993. With both riding a wave of popularity, Blake Shelton and Keith were a natural fit to take the stage together.

Keith had already been celebrating the song during the year, naming his 2018 tour the “Should’ve been a Cowboy XXV” tour.

The Shelton and Keith combination was one of several highlights of the 2018 ACM Awards show. The duo brought the crowd to their feet as they sang along with the two country icons. It drew one of the most positive crowd reactions of the entire show and blew up on social media afterwards. The YouTube video of the spectacular performance has thousands of views.

It is unknown if the two have asperations to work together again, but it’s safe to say that country music fans would love it.
