Country star Travis Tritt sure knows how to play the guitar. And he’s a pretty good singer, too, as he showed when he performed “Long Haired Country Boy” by the Charlie Daniels Band.
Travis Tritt Covers a Country Classic
In the throwback video, posted in August 2017, Tritt launches into a lengthy guitar solo before he finally plays the opening bars of the song. The audience roars with approval when he does. And throughout the song, the crowd claps along in rhythm with him.
“Long Haired Country Boy” is a song about a poor country boy who likes to drink in the afternoons with his blue tick hound. The chorus goes, “I ain’t askin’ nobody for nothin’ if I can’t get it on my own. If you don’t like the way I’m livin’, you just leave this long haired country boy alone.”
The song itself goes way back to the Charlie Daniels Band’s 1974 album Fire on the Mountain. It was released as a single in 1975. At its peak, it rose to No. 27 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. It hit No. 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Tritt’s cover updated the song, with lines like, “Bin Laden thinks he can bring us down, boys and girls that’s a damn good joke,” to enthusiastic cheers.
Tritt Gets Back to Live Music
The country star has a busy 2021 ahead of him as far as live shows go. Undaunted by the pandemic, Tritt is hitting the road to play in front of live audiences once again.
He recently played a live acoustic show in Owensboro, Kentucky. And afterward, he posted a photo to Instagram of the performance along with a heartfelt message.
“The one thing I’ve learned in the past year is to be grateful anytime I get a chance to perform live music for a live audience,” Tritt wrote on Instagram last week. “We all miss this so much! Thanks so much to the awesome crowd we had tonight in Owensboro, KY for my solo acoustic show.”
Looking ahead to future months, Tritt’s upcoming tour dates include an April 1 performance at the Abacoa Amphitheater in Jupiter, Florida and an April 2 show at Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach, Florida.
