It’s hard to believe Carrie Underwood got her start so long ago, but the country megastar has been on top since the early 2000s!
Ever since blowing the judges away on American Idol, there’s been no stopping her. After winning Season 4 in 2005, Carrie Underwood went on to immediate success as a recording artist in country music.
Now, she’s one of the top-selling artists the genre has ever seen, with a fanbase to rival any other. Chances are, however, if you’re here – you know the rest of her story!
Instead, let’s take a look back at the wonder that is Nickelback presenting an AMA award to Carrie Underwood – way back in 2006.
You read that right! The AMAs are based on fan-voting, and in 2006, fans voted Carrie Underwood as their Favorite Breakthrough Artist! And… Nickelback was there to announce her.
During her acceptance speech, which you can watch below, the shooting star thanks God first, then her fans. In addition, she makes time to thank her mother and management, as well.
Underwood Can’t Wait to Get Back to Fans
All those voting fans make up a huge part of Underwood’s life, too. While the 2020 AMAs just wrapped, the audience was almost non-existent due to COVID-19. Stars like Carrie, who are great about staying active with fans, are really starting to miss the “old ways”.
So what has she been up to without being able to tour or interact with followers? Turns out, COVID-19 has brought her family to the great outdoors.
“For most of the time since lockdown, we were able to spend a lot of time outside,” she says. “Which I think was a godsend for all of us. The boys and I did a lot of gardening together, which I love.”
For this generation’s Queen of Country, however, things just aren’t the same without interacting with her fans.
“I miss the fans so much!” she sighs. “We got to see so many of them out on tour last year, and it was such a magical year. To not know when we’ll have that back is a lot to take in, but hopefully we can be back out there again before too long.”

For a clip from 2006, it feels a century old, doesn’t it? So much has changed since 2006.
Carrie Underwood, however, is still the same country girl.
