The duo Dan + Shay is dropping a new Christmas song that captures the sad spirit of the holiday season in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some families may not be spending the holiday together due to travel restrictions.

Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney sing a soulful rendition with pop and a little bit of country thrown together. The duo sing to the power of both family and loved ones during the holiday season. It’s sure to be an instant classic for anyone feeling a little blue during Christmas time.

“‘Christmas Isn’t Christmas’ is very special to us,” Mooney told Sounds Like Nashville. “We wrote this song with our families in mind. We are definitely reminded around the holiday season how important it is to have those people that you love around you. Christmas really isn’t Christmas if you don’t have the people that you love around you.”

Dan + Shay Are in the Holiday Spirit

This was the second Christmas-themed song the duo released in recent weeks. Previously, they released the song “Take Me Home for Christmas,” which is similarly mournful. The song reflects on a narrator wishing to spend the holiday with his loved one rather than by himself at home.

“It’s been a long year, so we decided to get in the holiday spirit early,” the duo wrote in a tweet. “Our brand new song, ‘Take Me Home for Christmas,’ will be available everywhere at midnight et, and we hope it brings a bit of feel-good into your world.”

Besides releasing music, they’ve also recently set up a Christmas tree to get a little more in the spirit of the holiday. The duo released a time-lapse via Twitter.

They wrote, “Any other year, it would probably be too early to decorate for Christmas…but hey, it’s 2020, so why not! drop a (tree emoji) if you’ll be listening to ‘take me home for Christmas’ while you decorate!”
