β€’

Darius Rucker is giving back to military caregivers and his fans are loving it. The country star recently took part in the Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s third annual Heroes and History Makers event.

“The blessing of living in our great nation comes with the responsibility of uniting around issues that transcend political divides,” Dole said in a press release. “America, we want our hidden heroes to go to bed tonight knowing their stories have been heard, that their service and incredible sacrifice have been recognized.”

In addition to Rucker, the other stars that took part in the Facebook Live event included Tom Hanks, Adam Driver, Tim McGraw, and Hilary Swank.

Rucker was there to tell Briarly Wilson’s story. A US Air Force member, Wilson is raising 10 children with her husband Marcus, who is a wounded combat veteran. Marcus nearly died in 2006 in Iraq when an IED exploded beneath the vehicle he was riding in. He lost was his left leg above the knee in addition to the traumatic brain injury and PTSD he suffered in the attack.

“Like so many caregivers, she protects her veteran and family by quietly taking on the stresses of life on her own,” Rucker said of Briarly Wilson.

When doctors diagnosed her with cancer, Briary completed all of the tests and doctor visits without telling Marcus. Because she worried her diagnosis would upset him. Moreover, she kept her secret until she had to go in for surgery to remove the cancer.

“When I’m with my husband, I strap on my caregiver basket, and I don’t complain,” she said, according to Rucker.

Fan of Darius Rucker React to His Involvement

Fans were excited after Darius Rucker posted about the event on his social media. This was the first year the public could watch the event as it took place virtually. That’s because the coronavirus pandemic forced organizers to get creative in how they would present it.

Rucker’s fans were thrilled he was taking part, and they thanked him in the comments.
