Darius Rucker hopes to bring a little beer and sunshine into the world. The country music star said he’s champing at the bit to get back on the road and perform his new number one single for fans.

The coronavirus pandemic sidelined Rucker, along with most all musicians, nearly all of last year. He tweeted Thursday that he’s missing those live performances more than ever.

Rucker isn’t scheduled to perform a concert in the US until May 6 in Cincinnati, his website says. It will be his first since March. But he said he’s spent more time with family and tried to reflect on his life. He said he hopes his fans can find some peace in the struggles of the past year.

“It’s certainly been a challenging year. Like a lot of people, when I got home from being on the road last March and we parked the tour bus for the foreseeable future, we had no idea what our future would actually look like,” Darius Rucker said in a press release earlier this week.

“I don’t have the answers for how we fix the complex issues that we’re facing in our country or in Country music, however, while we work through this time I think it’s important that we balance the heaviness by finding the silver lining, where we can really enjoy the simple joys this song talks about like time spent together with friends and family.”

Rucker has stayed busy while off the road, however. He recently released his 10th No. 1 country single “Beer and Sunshine.” He’ll perform the song Friday on the Today show.

Darius Rucker Loves Post Malone’s Cover of Hootie Song

Rapper Post Malone just released his new song, a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s “Only Wanna Be With You,” and it’s getting a lot of love. One of the song’s biggest fans is Darius Rucker, former lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish.

“The smile in my face will not leave for a long time,” Rucker tweeted Thursday. “This is awesome. My bro @PostMalone bringing it. Hell yes man!!!!!!!!!”

Malone brings his echo-y, dreamlike sound to the song that he’s dubbed the “Pokémon 25 Version,” Rolling Stone said. Malone will perform the song live at a virtual concert Saturday at 7 p.m. You can watch it here.

The 26-year-old “Only Wanna Be With You” was one of Hootie’s biggest hits off their monster debut album Cracked Rear View.
