Dolly Parton ‘Was Not Big on Going To the Gym’ Over the Past Year

by Quentin Blount

We have all had to get creative when it comes to working out at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, and country music star Dolly Parton is no exception.

The 75-year-old star told the Wall Street Journal that she hasn’t spent any of her time in quarantine lounging around in sweatpants. Instead, she prefers to wear her own type of “little house clothes.”

“I don’t wear sweatpants. But I do like to be comfortable like everybody else,” the country star admitted. “I have my own little house clothes. Like a little dress-type teddy, a long teddy, then I have a little jacket or shirt to match if I get cold. I call them my baby clothes because they’re soft like a baby. But I don’t wear sweat clothes.”

Further, Parton says that she hasn’t exactly stuck to a pandemic workout routine, either. She prefers to create her own “easy exercises” as an alternative. She emphasized her faith and religious upbringing as part of her own custom routine.

“I create my own rejoicing exercises!” Parton explained. “I grew up in the Pentecostal church where we used to do a lot of shouting and jumping around. I keep my motor running in the mornings when I just shout through the house praising the Lord. It gave me an idea to create some easy exercises, and I’m making music to go along with it. Something that even people in wheelchairs or people that are older or sick can do. I thought I could create something joyful, where you were doing something for a reason rather than yourself.”

Dolly Parton Always Stays ‘Dolled Up’

So, Dolly Parton prefers to stay looking her best at home instead of lounging around sweatpants like many other stars. And not only that, she has continued to rock a full face of makeup on the regular during quarantine. Oftentimes, she even sleeps in her makeup.

“I never know if there’s going to be an earthquake or a tornado or a sotrm and I’m going to have to go out in the middle of the night!”

The “Jolene” singer said that she does all of her “beauty work” very early in the morning. Parton typically wakes up at 3 a.m. to wash her face and start her makeup routine.

“I’ve always been intrigued with makeup and perfume, all the stuff that makes girls girly,” Parton said.
