She’s known as a country music legend, but even that title and even tributes to her make 9 to 5 songstress Dolly Parton feel older than she actually is.
In a 2016 interview with the Pensacola News Journal, Dolly Parton reflected on the tributes she has received over the years, including at the CMAs. “I really am flattered and honored, because I’ve been around a long time,” Parton declared. She also says that she’s one of the early women in country music that started and kind of held her place.
“Sometimes [the tributes] make you feel 100 years old. And I guess I nearly am,” Dolly Parton jokes. “But seriously, it makes me feel proud that I’ve done something to inspire and influence other people.”
Dolly Parton further shared that not everyone knows what they’re going to turn out to be when they’re young. “You just hope you do well and hope you leave something good behind and accomplish your dreams.”
The famous singer-songwriter also looked back on her career and said she really takes a lot of pride in her success. But she’s also very humbled by it all. “I’m very grateful for it.”
Dolly Parton Shared What Her Biggest Accomplishment Is & Future Goals
Also during her interview with the Pensacola News Journal, Dolly Parton revealed what her biggest accomplishment is. “I really have accomplished a lot of things in my life. And I’m proud of every one of them,” she explained. Parton then says she’s very proud of every award she has received, including the Country Music Association’s Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award.
“Sometimes it makes you feel like people think you’re old, and I feel like I’m just now getting started good,” Dolly Parton proclaimed. “But it’s just such an honor to be recognized and appreciated for what I always wanted to do.”
In regards to her future goals, Dolly Parton said she has a lot of plans with TV, movies, and clothes. “I’ve got dreams all the time that I’d like to see come true, while I’m still living. I’m living [life] to the fullest.”
Dolly Parton Talked About Fellow Singer Willie Nelson
Along with accepting the Country Music Association’s Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, Dolly Parton also had a few other thoughts about the fellow legendary singer-songwriter. “I love Willie as much as I love anybody outside of my family,” Parton stated. She explained that she has known Willie since they both came to Nashville in the early 1960s.
“We used to sit out in the same building and write songs for the same publishing company,” Dolly Parton recalled. “And record for the same record label. We’ve know each other for a long time.”
Dolly Parton goes on to add that Willie is one of the sweetest, most generous people she knows. “In addition to being one of the great songwriters and greatest stylists of all time. So I’m honored to get that award from Willie.”
