Dolly Parton Reveals Why She Doesn’t Make New Year’s Resolutions

by Madison Miller

With 2020 being the way it was, resolutions for 2021 may be more abundant than ever. There is certainly a lot of people who want to change things for 2021, although some may be out of their control.

For iconic figure, Dolly Parton, resolutions for the new year will just never work for her.

According to The Boot, Parton shared why she gave up on making resolutions back in 2014.

“It’s always the same thing: I’m gonna exercise more this year, I’m gonna eat better. And that lasts for a couple of weeks, and then I’m right back where I started. So I don’t make ’em ’cause I always break ’em,'” Parton said.

It seems like Dolly Parton pretty much has her life together though. At 73, Parton continues to trail-blaze the world with her old and new achievements.

It seems like she wakes up energized and motivated every day, so maybe she really doesn’t need new year resolutions to keep her focused.

“But I really don’t think about my age. If my health holds up, I’ll still be doing this at 95, if I live that long … I only sleep for three hours at a time before I get up and do other stuff. Then I cat nap,” Parton said.

A Year-Round Role Model

However, if you’re looking for positive reassurances going into the new year, Dolly Parton continues to be a beacon of a role model.

She told Southern Living that she “was born with a happy heart” and is “always looking for things to be better.”

And Dolly has certainly made things better for people in 2020. From releasing her Netflix movie “Christmas on the Square” to doing a weekly video series reading books to kids to give parents a break from watching and entertaining their kids. She even wrote a book called “Songteller” with stories behind the songs and never-before-seen pictures.

She has also given back through Dollywood. The theme park gave protective supplies to local first responders and staff at the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. She also donated $1 million to help advance coronavirus research.

Dolly Parton’s “Imagination Library” foundation continues to give back by donating books to children in need.

Dolly Parton also uses her social media to spread her “Dollyisms.” These are the rules she lives by and shares with her fans. Some are fun, others are serious. But Dolly Parton lives everyday like she’s trying to achieve a new year’s resolution.
