Dolly Parton Wishes Fans ‘Bit of Warmth’ on ‘National Cuddle Up Day’

Country superstar Dolly Parton is sending some warmth her fans’ way for National Cuddle Up Day.

“I know the holidays are over, but it’s #NationalCuddleUpDay!” Parton tweeted Wednesday. “Wishing you all a little bit of warmth this winter.”

Dolly Parton Sings About Cuddling

She accompanied her message with a link to the “Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas” music video. The cartoon music video is for her duet with singer Michael Buble, from Parton’s “A Holly Dolly Christmas” album.

While the song itself is about two lovers, Parton revealed that she got the idea for it from a much tamer source. She was inspired while she was cuddling with her nieces and nephews.

“People will find this surprising; they might not even like it,” Parton recounted. “It might not be as sexy, but it’s the truth. I wrote this while I was cuddling up and cozying down with my little nieces and nephews, just thinking about mothers and their babies.”

“You know, when I started writing it… it [was] really about being there with your little baby, like kissing and hugging and all that,” she explained. “And then later, I thought, ‘Well, I need to make this into a more romantic thing.’ So I did.”

“And I cuddled up with Michael Buble on this one!” she added. “And he did a great job on it. So, it made it sexy. And I can only fantasize [about] cuddling up and cozying down with him.”

Looking Out for Her Fans, Including Carl

In encouraging her fans to cuddle, Parton is also looking out for their health. According to WebMD, cuddling can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and lower your levels of cortisol, a stress hormone. It can also block pain, fight colds and help you sleep.

If Parton’s not cuddling with her nieces and nephews, chances are she’s cozying up to her husband of 54 years, Carl Dean.

“He’s always supporting me as long as I don’t try to drag him in on it,” Parton told People about Dean’s views on her career. “He’s always been my biggest fan behind the scenes, but he’s at home.”

While Dean prefers to skip the high-profile red carpet events that are part of Parton’s lifestyle, he has been her rock through all the ups and downs of fame. The two are opposites in many ways, but Parton has said she’s always happy to come home to him. And this January 6, the two of them can celebrate National Cuddle Up Day together, too.
