Dolly Parton Reflects on Her Brother’s Legacy

Dolly Parton reflected on her brother’s life and also the legacy he leaves behind. Randy would often collaborate with his sister on songs. But he also struck out on his own as a musician, starring in his own show at Dollywood.

“Randy was a great singer, writer, and entertainer,” Parton wrote. “He sang, played guitar and bass in my band for many years. He headed his own show at Dollywood since it opened in 1986. He’s had several chart records of his own. But his duet with me on ‘Old Flames Can’t Hold A Candle To You’ will always be a highlight in my own career.”

Their last collaboration came on Dolly’s recent Christmas album “A Holly Dolly Christmas,” which released last October. Both of the Parton siblings performed “You Are My Christmas,” with Randy’s daughter.

“‘You Are My Christmas,’ our duet on my latest Christmas album, joined with his daughter Heidi, will always be a favorite. It was his last musical recording and he shined on it just like he’s shining in heaven now,” Dolly Parton wrote.

In addition to his numerous siblings, Randy Parton is survived by his wife Deb, daughter Heidi, son Sabyn and grandsons Huston and Trent.
