Eric Church is known for giving 110 percent in everything he does. His country music success can be attributed to the passion Church prides himself on. From his albums to his live shows, Church has proved that performing is in his blood. While his career has not been without its pitfalls, one thing has always remained constant: he gives it all he’s got when he steps on stage.
Here are some of his best moments during his live performances.
“Pledge Allegiance to the Hag” At “Austin City Limits”
Eric Church made his “Austin City Limits” television debut on Nov. 15, 2014. In September of that year, he filmed the concert, playing songs from his latest album in 2014: The Outsiders. He also performed songs from his past albums, such as Carolina and Chief. “Pledge Allegiance to the Hag” came off Church’s debut record, Sinners Like Me.
“This goes on that handful of special nights,” Church said at the time. “I have a few of them, but this certainly goes in that category of one of the most special things we’ve done.”
During his performance of the song, which honors the late Merle Haggard, Church poured his heart and soul out as he paid tribute to the man Church looked up to for so many years.
“Eric and his band know how to rock harder than many rock ‘n’ roll bands,” says Terry Lickona, ‘Austin City Limits” executive producer, “and his music and the words behind it have a way of reaching fans way beyond the usual borders of country music. He’s a perfect fit for ‘ACL.'”
“The Outsiders” Performace At The 2013 CMA Awards
Eric Church played his brand new single at the time, “The Outsiders,” during the 2013 CMA Awards.
As he took the stage, blue lights welcomed the singer before he began the performance in a low-key manner. However, it took Church no time before the show transitioned to high energy, with drum beats, an electric guitar, and Church’s rock-n-roll persona to shine through.
During the performance, steam rose from the stage, and fire ignited the excited crowd. The addition of the bright lights added to the show’s energy.
It’s a good thing Church wore sunglasses: fireballs burst on the stage while Church and his band hit chords, leaving the crowd captivated.
“Drink In My Hand” At The 2011 CMA Awards
Church opened up his set of three performances of the CMA Awards on Nov. 9 in 2011 with his standout single at the time, “Drink in My Hand.”
Brad Paisley introduced Church, the first of three “New Artist of the Year” nominees to perform one after another.
At the time, Church, a new dad, wore his signature outfit: a gray tee-shirt, a ball cap, and aviators.
Even though Church’s award show performances are limited in number, this performance made it look like he was an old pro.
“Hell of a View” At The 2020 CMA Awards
Again, Church proved that he could rock an awards show like no one else during the 2020 CMA Awards. The singer, who won the award for “Entertainer of the Year,” sported aviator sunglasses and head-to-toe black as he performed “Hell of a View.”
As Church and his band took the stage, they performed underneath blue-tinged lights, making his red guitar stand out as he serenaded the crowd.
Eric Church Plays “Guys Like Me” From Tailgate in Nashville
Trading a stage, for a tailgate, Church performed “Guys Like Me” from the back of Chevy on June 8th, 2007 from Nashville. The event included Church planting trees in Nashville with fans before his performance. Accompanying him was his fan club, dubbed The Church Choir.
The footage takes place as a much younger Eric Church performs acapella vocals and acoustic guitar for The Church Choir.
Before the performance, Church was gifted a brand new Chevrolet truck. The 2007 CMA Fan Event was sponsored by Chevrolet/GM. As part of the event, GM gifted Church a brand new black Chevrolet E85 FlexFuel Silverado.
