Faith Hill made a special appearance at Tim McGraw’s last show during his 2012 tour to perform “I Need You.” Then she started crying, and now we’re crying.
Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have been one of country music’s favorite couples since they tied the knot in 1996. And in 2012, even after 16 years together, Faith Hill was still moved to tears by her love for Tim. During the final show for his Brothers Of The Sun Tour, Faith hill joined Tim on stage. The two performed their famous duet, “I Need You.” Mid-way through the performance, Faith broke down in tears.
The Story Behind Faith Hill’s And Tim McGraw’s Song “I Need You”
“I Need You” is a song about confessing your feelings to the person you love most. During the song, Tim and Faith take turns singing. Lyrics include, “I need you, like a needle needs a vein. Like my uncle Joe in Oklahoma needs the rain. I need you like a lighthouse on the coast. Like the father and the son need the holy ghost. I need you.”
During an interview, McGraw shared that the two singing back and forth throughout the song was purposeful. He didn’t want to harmonize with Faith like a traditional duet.
“That’s what I wanted the song to be when we set out to cut it. I didn’t want our voices to ever touch,” said McGraw. “I thought that would be cool if we sang a love song without our voices ever touching. It just kind of creates some tension. And she did a beautiful job on it.”
Tim McGraw also shared that, even after all these years together, he still gets nervous singing with his wife.
“She’s just a great, soulful singer, and I’m always scared I’m just gonna screw her up if I’m involved. But I love singing with her,” he said.
Faith Hill and Tim McGraw released “I Need You” in April 2007. The song swept the charts and peaked in the number eight spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. It also landed number 50 on the all-genre Hot 100 chart. The couple also recorded a music video for the song. This could potentially be the most romantic country music video of all time. The two are seated across from each other in what appears to be an under-construction-home. But you can barely notice the unfurnished walls with all the beautifully lit candles in the room. Surrounded by romantic lighting, the two stare into each other’s eyes and take turns singing their lines. #RelationshipGoals
