The Florida Georgia Line duo’s been feuding for some time now and drawing a line in the sand like the one that borders the two states in the band’s name… Or are they?
Florida Georgia Line is squashing any of those break-up rumors in a recent interview on SiriusXM, according to Taste of Country. Here’s the deal: they’re not fighting nor are they breaking up.
Yes, Tyler Hubbard did unfollow Brian Kelly on social media, since that’s how we determine how couples are fighting nowadays. However, both Hubbard and Kelly knew exactly what was going on. In an interview with Storme Warren, the Florida Georgia Line duo explains what happened. It all started with the 2020 presidential election.
They’re not fighting, and they’re not breaking up. Sure, Tyler Hubbard briefly unfollowed Brian Kelley on social media, but both sides knew exactly what was happening, and, really, it’s all good.
Says Hubbard says, “I unfollowed BK for a few days while we were through this political — you know, in the middle of this election and everything going on.”
Even though the two share the band and a friendship, they don’t always see eye to eye when it comes to politics. Hubbard was hunkered down on his bus after testing positive for the coronavirus when the news came rolling in about the 2020 presidential election. However, Kelley joined fellow artists that are calling for a return of live concerts. One-half of FGL feels that if crowds can gather to celebrate and protest the election, then musicians should be able to tour.
“I even called him and told him, I said, ‘Hey, buddy, I love you. And I love you a lot more in real life than on your [Instagram] Stories right now. So I’m just going to — so that’s why I’m unfollowing you. Nothing personal. I still love you. You’re still my brother,'” Hubbard admits. “I just didn’t want to see it every time I opened Instagram. And so it wasn’t a big deal.”
The Social Aftermath
During the interview, the FGL bandmates both agree they’re “on great terms” and “feeling stronger than ever.” As a matter of fact, the news that they were splitting broke during a phone call they were having with their team.
Kelley says, “We’re just like, ‘Well, that’s interesting. We are on a phone call together right now talking about the future.'”
Hubbard and Kelley actually have more things in common than differences that could divide them. Hubbard even touches on the topic of their opposing political views.
“We might have different views or different sets of opinions … but, ultimately, we’re a lot alike, and we think a lot alike,” Hubbard says, “and we — you know, we, we both believe in God, and we both put our faith in Him, and we know that He’s in control over Donald Trump or Joe Biden.”
This isn’t the first time the two have disagreed on something. They both admit that they’ve had to work through differences in the past. These differences don’t always receive the same spotlight this latest riff has garnered. Plus, get this, Hubbard and Kelley have even gone to therapy to work on their “brotherly” relationships.
“We’ve sat with each other and wanted to kill each other at times. But by the end of it, we were hugging it out,” Hubbard says. “Because we’re brothers, and that’s what brothers do. And brothers don’t always get along …
Hubbard continues, “We know the importance of our relationship and how much love we have for each other. So we have worked over the years: We’ve worked to become stronger and stronger and stronger, and that’s … made us stronger as friends and brothers and partners.”
The FGL members joke that maybe they should keep their fake feud going. Hey, any publicity is good publicity, right?
“I might unfollow BK again tomorrow just to keep the media talking about it,” Hubbard says.
“We are going to go full WWE on this thing,” Kelley adds.
