Country superstar, Garth Brooks, really tried to unify the people. A moment of unity and peace, raising voices in song to celebrate our nation. Voices united in song, joining the country together.

As the first performer after Biden’s inaugural speech, Garth Brooks calmly belted “Amazing Grace.” The song tells a beautiful story about rising from the ashes of our lives with faith and perseverance.

And in a seemingly poetic moment, Brooks attempted a duet with the nation.

Before reciting the last line of the song, Brooks stopped and said “I’m going to ask you to sing this last verse with me. Not just the people here, but at home, and at work…as one, united.”

Some on the stage joined the country music star in song. Vice President Kamala Harris and superstar Lady Gaga were singing along, and yes, we were shouting the lyrics at home.

While some social media users noticed the relatively quiet audience and assumed a lack of participation, we blame masks hiding mouths and quieting voices. The moment was powerful, uniting the country as we open a new chapter. Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound.

Other Songs We’d Love to Sing With Garth Brooks

Of course, we aren’t new to singing with Brooks. We sang loud and proud at the live shows prior to the pandemic. So, next time Garth grabs the mic, these are the songs we are eager to duet with him next…

Starting with “Friends In Low Places.” Now, if Brooks had taken the inaugural stage with “Cause I’ve got friends in low places. Where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away. And I’ll be okay,” I’m willing to bet there would have been some sing-alongs. With the year we’ve had, we can all unite in the belief that good beer can help get us through some troubling and isolating times.

“Ain’t Goin Down ‘Til The Sun Comes Up”

With inauguration events starting mid-morning and not ending until well into the night hours, government officials are in it for the long haul today. And with all of the events of today, officials “ain’t going down ’til the sun comes up” today. If the inauguration had been a Brooks concert, maybe he would have played into the groups’ obligation to almost 12 hours of inauguration events.
