Is there anyone out there who thinks that Garth Brooks doesn’t have a way with words? There probably aren’t too many of you out there. His song lyrics speak to his ability to say exactly what he wants to.
After the Kennedy Center hosted its 43rd class of honorees, of which Garth Brooks was included, he wanted to take a moment to thank a special person in his life. Trisha Yearwood has been by his side as his wife since 2005. As many people know, she is an incredibly important part of his life.
He takes to social media fairly often to talk about how much his wife means to him. So, after the country superstar was given a lifetime achievement award, he wanted to publicly thank Yearwood.
Even though his appreciation wasn’t his own words, they were still meaningful. Garth Brooks used a famous poet’s words to help him express his gratefulness to his wife.
“To loosely quote Maya Angelou,” the country singer said, “I stand here as one, but I stand here for the people who have carried me to this point. Grateful! love, g.”
He also included a pair of photos of the two looking dapper next to one another. In one of the photos he shared, the happy couple shares a touching kiss.

The superstar country singer was one of five people given lifetime achievement awards at the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony in Washington, D.C.
Dick Van Dyke, Joan Baez, violinist Midori, and choreographer, and director Debbie Allen were the other four. Certainly, the group of five represents an incredibly talented group of people.
According to Garth Brooks, he was overjoyed to be part of the ceremony. He noted that it was an honor to “fly the country music flag.” Additionally, the country musician said that he was just happy to be included with such incredible “classmates.”
Garth Brooks also said, “Everybody knows my sister was probably the greatest influence on me, music-wise. I wanted to be [Debbie Allen] when I was a kid, ’cause she was always so cool. And Joan Baez is, like, [a] major influence for my sister. So to sit in the same booth with Miss Joan is going to be friggin’ awesome.”
Before the event began, the country singer was asked about what it was like to be accepting an honor like this with Dick Van Dyke. He said, “I don’t know how you get any cooler than that. So, this is going to be a fun, fun weekend.”
All five of the honorees were highly complimentary of being given lifetime artistic achievement awards. Each of them said that it was a unique, once-in-a-lifetime ceremony. But, Garth Brooks still joked about the award, saying, “I don’t mind being the weak link on the chain. I’m in the chain!”
